We are located in the heart of Morelia’s historic center, in one of the part 1,200 buildings listed as World Heritage.

History, World Heritage Site and Los Juaninos

The majestic building that houses the Hotel Los Juaninos dates from the 17th century and was built by the Bishop of Michoacán, Juan Ortega y Montañés, as the seat of the Episcopal Palace. However, due to its luxury, it was censured by society and ceded to the Order of Los Juaninos, who founded the “Real Hospital de San Juan de Dios” and administered it for more than a century.

In 1830, Dr. Juan Manuel González Ureña installed in the building the first medical chair in Michoacán, leading to the creation of the “Escuela de Medicina de Michoacán” (Michoacan School of Medicine) in 1865.

In 1885, the Belgian engineer Guillermo Woddon de Sorinne adapted it for lodging purposes, and it opened its doors as Hotel Oseguera on December 12, 1886.

In 1996, the building was recovered to restore its splendor as a hotel, respecting its essence and architecture with a careful adaptation of each of its spaces. In 1998, the Hotel Los Juaninos was inaugurated, presenting an innovative lodging proposal in the historic center of the city of Morelia.

The building has a long history and is an important part of the city’s architecture and heritage. It is also a major tourist attraction.
